how to organize the great big art mess!

i know i’m not the only mom out there who has a kiddo (or kiddos!) that love having alllllll the art supplies. obviously, i’m a huge supporter of having whatever art and craft supplies my kiddos want to help encourage their creativity and making, but sometimes…it all gets to be a lot.

little mr. re-nest #2 always has his hands in all the glue, pipe cleaners, paper, tape, and occasionally my good sewing scissors. (y’all know what i mean…) and, for me and my need to be organized and feel like i should be on the next season of “the home edit,” we had to get his art supplies in order.

so, one weekend (against my better judgement), we took a very short trip to ikea. (that’s a whole story for another day.) we went in knowing we needed the alex six-drawer unit – the same one i have in my craft space that holds alllllll of my paper. we got that thing home, the husband put it together, and we rolled it up next to the little man’s art desk…and, it was the perfect fit!

doodles is my fave drawer label!

then came the organizing. blank paper, blank books, those enormously large coloring pads, random bits of construction paper, pipe cleaners, paints, markers, you name it, it found its way into one of the drawers. plus, it gave us the reason to clean up all of the 3-d printer stuff too and get that organized. at the end of the day, i was one very happy mama!

that couldn’t be all though (i mean, you all have seen “the home edit,” right?) i got going on making vinyl labels for all the drawers (but of course!) little man picked out the color for each drawer and i made it happen. i can’t necessarily say that he’s super stoked about it, but i am!
