re-nest life \\ becoming a swim mom

well, hello there. it’s been a while and i have no idea where the time has gone. i mean, i know where it’s gone to….the usual mom/chaos that makes up my life, but it’s just kind of scary that the last month has basically gone by in the blink of an eye.

part of the reason for this time-flying-by thing has been little mr. re-nest #1’s love of swimming. he’s been in lessons since he was 6 months old, and this year, we started talking to him about joining our local swim team through the ymca. he did the three weeks of stroke clinic. then, he did rookie week. and, he decided he wanted to give it a whirl.

this weekend, i officially became a swim mom.

we had our first meet, and oh.my.gosh. not only did i see giant smiles on my boy’s face, but i seriously smile whenever i think about this great sport, this amazing experience, and this growing point in our boy’s life. i’m learning what is required to be a “swim mom” (*note: chairs, lightweight clothing for meet days, and lots o’ snacks). and, most of all, i’m seeing my boy get excited about a sport that i am ten thousand percent behind, and seeing him be completely comfortable in the water. (if i’ve never mentioned it, i did not have a great start to pools and swimming when i was young. i was thrown in a pool at age 4 and couldn’t swim. i was basically terrified of the water until i was a teenager and then i took swim lessons to at least be able to function in the water.)

a couple of snaps from this weekend (which still bring a beaming smile to my face…apologies for the bad iphone photos; i forgot my DSLR!)
