babies love bubbles…and valentine’s day!

even though valentine’s day was almost a week ago, i totally believe that the whole month of february should be dressed in pink +red + hearts all over. because when it’s so cold and dreary, who doesn’t need a little love to make it through this time of the year?

this year, valentine’s day was kind of a blur. my boys barely get into it at all (translate: i bought their class valentine’s at walgreens), and mr. re-nest and i were b-u-r-i-e-d in the daytime hustles. sadly, the mister and i looked at one another the night before, realized the next day was love day, and that neither of us had planned a single thing. it was a “hey, wanna celebrate this weekend, and i love you and you know that, so we’re cool, right?” kind of moment. (note: i love him so much. i get when he’s slammed at work. he gets when i am slammed at work. i get when things creep up on him. he gets when things creep up on me.)

even though we were slammed, i still got to get in some super fun love day creativity with some cute, custom valentine’s for my favorite little girl (i.e. my niece). when my sissy asked if i would help her pinterest-worthy valentine idea come to life, i couldn’t say no….i mean, this was her first valentine’s day.

in case you’re curious about how messy i am….here’s a shot while i was in the midst of making valentine’s day special for my #favoritelittlegirl

my niece also requested some custom cards for her teachers too!

the whole idea centered around little bubble wands + cards. i got to work thinking about how we could best make the idea come to life…because this wasn’t a typical layered paper type of project. this called for breaking out my new silhouette pen set, and the pen holder. i ended up designing the layout in silhouette design studio, and exploring the so cool world of the hand-drawn look with using pens. after lots of tests, i ended up using a fine point sharpie to get just the right look, and then had them scanned and printed by my amazing friend at walgreens in sycamore. 🙂

seriously, such love + fun with this custom order, and what made it even better was who it was for! (note: my brain is on overdrive, thinking about cool designs i can do with my new pen skills!)
