girly stuff

it’s no surprise. i’m surrounded by males. but what that means is that in my house, i’m given any and all leeway to go pink and girly with anything that i want…i have a pink netbook. my other laptop has this magenta lacoste case (that i scored at tjmaxx!). anything i get that’s craft-related is girly and pink and bright. and not one of my boys says a thing about it. (i love my boys for letting me be me.)

so, as i’ve been working through ideas for home decor projects that could possibily evolve one day into something that i offer to more than just family and friends (an etsy store is on my wish list), i couldn’t help but think girly. (and for any readers out there that might be thinking this tendency towards girly home decor means something like adding a girl to our family, it doesn’t. let me be crystal clear about that.) 🙂 so, the girly stuff is just for fun.

i’ve taken a notice that when it comes to home decor for kiddos’ rooms, there’s a lot out there, but i always like to have something of a personal touch for decor and have something that no one else might have. that’s where this idea came from…one saturday while wondering through michaels, i spotted these really bright, silk gerbera daisies that have a clip on the back. i ended up just standing there in the aisle, looking at these and wondering what i could do with them, when it hit me. canvas + flower = really cute and different 3-d decoration for a kiddo room. so, the idea was born.

i’ve done just two so far, more out of a test than anything. i can see these as standalone or as a set. or even in a set of four with different colors of flowers and canvas.

i started with two simple blank canvas, in a 8″x10″ size.

i found a value pack at michael’s for $19.99…for $10 with my 50% off coupon!

each was coated in two coats of acrylic paint…in lemon yellow and bubblegum pink.

once dry, it was a must to measure. i knew i wanted these centered in a horizontal format. using my trusty x-acto knife, i made a 3/8″ slit in the canvas, to allow for the clip to fit through.

voila! very simple, bright, happy and cheery. and very girly, which makes me happy.

here’s to girliness and cheery decorations,
ashley
