the sweetest little kids valentine’s craft kit

i’m in a lot of moms groups…all of them on social media. local ones, ones for working moms, ones for maker moms, and ones where you can ask all the questions about being a mom. the one thing i kept seeing over and over again (even as we exited the spring/summer/fall of COVID) was trying to find activities for kids to do at home. things they could do that were creative, educational, and get them away from screens – and, a lot of questions about kids craft kits. obviously, i saw a lot of this last summer when i started crafts + kids, but for 2021, i wanted to try and help even more. i get it. i’m a parent, i’m also managing kids doing e-learning, a full-time job, and all the stresses that seem to have been added on in the last year. (can we talk about how stressful it is to time when to order the groceries for curbside? i’m a *horrible* planner when it comes to this!) yes, i love going to michaels, but it’s just not always possible.

the DIY chalkboard kit! now available in my etsy shop…with a 20% off coupon: CRAFTSPLUSKIDSLOVE

so, i wanted to help get you + your kids the supplies you need to join us in some of the crafts we have coming up this spring! and, it all starts with the DIY heart chalkboard kit!

i’m going to stop my shameless self-promotion here, and give a massive shout-out to my maker bestie + collaborator on this first kit: joni from silver pumpkin designs. i told joni what was in my head, and she busted to get the hearts created, just for you! and, you’re going to want to stay tuned because joni and i have our heads together for some more fun craft projects coming up!

so i’m here to help keep you from making one more stop during your weekend errands, or having to trek out in the snow…the kit is available now in my etsy shop AND there’s a coupon code too! (who doesn’t love a coupon code?!?) just enter in CRAFTSPLUSKIDSLOVE at checkout to get your 20% off (and, did i mention there’s free shipping too?!?)

what comes in the kit? here’s what you’re going to get:

– one (1) heart-shaped wood cutout with holes for hanging ribbon (~10″ x 10″. i’m also going to do a little more shameless self-promotion here: the heart in my kit is larger than the heart you can buy at local craft stores. it’s the perfect side for hanging on a bedroom door, or in a kitchen where your kids can write sweet valentine’s notes during the month!)
– one (1) bottle of black chalkboard paint
– one (1) foam brush
– assorted red + white small pom poms
– two (2) pieces of white + red heart ribbon for hanging
– helpful written instructions

there are a couple of additional items that are needed to finish off your chalkboard:

– elmers glue or hot glue gun (**only to be used under adult supervision)
– white chalk
– damp cloth

that’s it! once you have your kit, you’ll want to check out my crafts + kids how-to video below! alex + i had a great time showing how to make your very own chalkboard to add a little love to your valentine’s day decor!

{and, when you do your projects, please feel free to share them with us! be sure to tag re-nest studio on facebook and instagram and show us how your kiddos created their chalkboard! there is nothing better than seeing what your kids create!}

oh, and p.s. i just had to share this quote that a mama passed along to me today after she and her daughter watched our video + making her own chalkboard:

“this is so much fun!” “i want alex and his mom to do another one!” – charlotte, age 5
