kindness, jr.

“some kids are smarter than you, some kids have cooler clothes than you, some kids are better at sports than you. it doesn’t matter. you have your thing too. be the kid who can get along. be the kid who is generous. be the kid who is happy for other people. be the kid who does the right thing. be the nice kid.” – bryan scavnak

welcome to the newest addition to re-nest studio: the kindness jr. project!

as our sons have grown, it’s always been critically important to us to teach them kindness, compassion, and most of all, the awareness of the blessings they have in life that others might not have. we’re fortunate this message is resonating with our boys. and, that they see places in their world where they can help others with the gifts that they have. this is why our oldest son has decided to put his creative foot forward with the launch of kindness, jr.

the kindness, jr. project is a place where our sons can blend their love of making small projects with giving back to others. every single craft project introduced under kindness, jr. will be handmade by our sons, and every dollar raised through the sale of these projects will go directly back to the cause that our boys have chosen for that project.

thank you for joining us in this new endeavor, and most of all, for supporting our boys’ desire to give back!

summer 2018 kindness jr. project: bookmarks for (lunch)bags

for the past year, #1 has been very active at our church with helping with a free lunch program for students at northern illinois university. it was brought to our attention it is believed that ~1,500 students at northern illinois university* are food insecure – meaning that many students lack the nutritional food they need for their active lifestyle. our members stepped up this past year with donations and weekly prep of 100 packed lunches which are handed out every monday during the school year on the campus of northern illinois university to students and bus drivers who need them. shockingly, we have found that these 100 lunches are often handed out within the first 15 minutes of being on campus.

this summer, #1 is making handmade bookmarks (because reading is more fun with a fun and colorful bookmark!), and selling these for $1.00 per bookmark. all of the money brought in from the sale of bookmarks will go straight to the first lutheran church northern illinois university lunch program to purchase brown paper bags, ziploc bags, bread, peanut butter, fruit, and more to continue lunch prep and offerings for college students during the 2018-2019 school year.

**for our friends at first lutheran church in dekalb, we will have bookmarks available in person during the social hour after service on sunday, july 29!
